Getting Started

Once you have applied to College of the Desert and registered for your online classes, the next steps you need to perform to access your online course are:

  1. Log into Canvas.

    1. All new students will receive an email from College of the Desert within three business days of applying​ which includes your COD ID Number, MyCOD log-in and your default password to log into your student accounts.
      Please refer to this email in order to find your student log-in information!
      If you have not received this email, please contact Admissions and Records at 
      enrolls@collegeofthedesert.edu or by calling 760-773-2516.​

    2. If you are unable to log into MyCOD with this information, this problem can typically be fixed by updating your password. There is a "Reset Password" link below the Login screen for "MyCOD." If you need additional help logging in, call 760-636-7970 or email edge@collegeofthedesert.edu.

  2. Once logged in, you will see a list of all the courses in which you are enrolled. If you do not see a particular course listed, chances are your situation is one of the three scenarios below.

    1. It can take up to 24 hours for a new enrollment to show up on Canvas, so if you have just enrolled in a course it may take a whole day before you will see the new course listed in Canvas. Similarly, if you just applied for admission to COD, it may take up to 24 hours for your MyCOD account to be generated.

    2. You could have been dropped from the course. Verify your enrollment in the course through Self-Service. 

    3. The instructor has not yet made the course available to students at this time​. Either contact your instructor or wait until the first day of the semester. Instructors using Canvas will make their courses available by the first day of class.
