calWORKS & Adult Basic Education

CalWORKs students are eligible to take the following courses in the Adult Basic Education & ESLN Programs: High School Completion, GED preparation, English as a Second Language and English, Math and Reading Remediation. For information on the High School Completion, GED preparation and English as a Second Language programs, please refer to other sections in this site.

English, Math and Reading Skills

If you have a high school diploma, but don't feel ready to enroll into a college-level course, Developmental Education offers a variety of courses in English, Reading and Mathematics that review basic concepts in these areas.


Literacy

Literacy is an individualized reading program, with one-on-one instruction, set up for those students that have special needs in reading.


Other CalWORKs Programs

Desert Community College District offers On and Off Campus Study Programs. The DCCD CalWORKs On and Off-Campus Work Study is a state-funded, welfare reform program designed to stimulate and promote employment of eligible college students. It provides work opportunities that will enable the CalWORKs students to learn valuable skills assisting in their occupational /career goals. This program provides financial assistance to eligible students through combined earnings from CalWORKs employment and other forms of financial assistance in order to help students become self-sufficient.
