College of the Desert is celebrating a milestone for its paramedic program as its first graduates transition from students to practicing paramedics, ready to serve emergency medical care across the Coachella Valley.

Recent graduates Daniel Mendez and Diana Rivas are completing field training with American Medical Response and are nearing clearance to practice independently. They are the first graduates of College of the Desert's Paramedic Program to complete the full pathway from paramedic student to nationally registered, state-licensed, county-accredited and practicing paramedic professionals.

“The College of the Desert Paramedic Program taught me that excellence isn't optional, it's expected. Thanks to instructors who held us to high standards and genuinely invested in our success, I entered the workforce prepared to meet the challenges of serving my community with confidence and professionalism,” said Daniel Mendez.

Their achievement reflects the program's mission of preparing skilled emergency medical professionals to meet the growing healthcare needs of the valley.

It also represents the collective efforts of faculty, staff, clinical partners, field preceptors, administrators and community supporters who helped launch and sustain the program.

Since launching in 2024, the paramedic program has focused on preparing students with the knowledge, technical skills and real-world experience necessary to provide lifesaving care in emergency situations.

The College has already received 39 applications for its next paramedic cohort, with additional prospective students continuing to inquire about future enrollment opportunities.

As the program expands, the success of its inaugural graduates serves as an example of the impact College of the Desert is making in strengthening the local healthcare workforce.

Their accomplishments represent not only a personal achievement but also the beginning of what promises to be a lasting legacy for College of the Desert's Paramedic Program.
