New Platform at College of the Desert Connects Job Fair Attendees to Employers
Students and alumni looking for new opportunities at the College of the Desert Fall 2022 Career & Job Fair can get a head start connecting with employers by using the Handshake platform.
The Career & Job Fair will take place at the Palm Desert campus, 43500 Monterey Ave., in front of the Fountain of Knowledge on Thursday, October 13, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. More than a dozen of the Coachella Valley’s largest employers will be on hand to meet with job seekers.
Handshake seeks to eliminate barriers to entry-level jobs so students can start building their careers before they finish school. Job applicants who register an account through Handshake can connect to jobs and internships with more than 550,000 employers worldwide, including numerous Fortune 500 companies.
“Combining an in-person job fair with the Handshake platform opens up unlimited possibilities for our students and alumni,” said College of the Desert Superintendent/President Martha Garcia, Ed.D. “Students and graduates now have a powerful tool to help them as they prepare to spread their wings and put their education to work in exciting new careers.”
Handshake users who create a profile receive a list of jobs that are the best fit, and they can filter and search through listings based on their interests. Recruiters can connect with students directly to share event invites and job opportunities.
Students and alumni can set up their Handshake account through the College of the Desert Student Portal or at collegeofthedesert.joinhandshake.com/login.
To help students prepare, the Career and Workforce Solutions Center is offering several skill-building workshops on October 11 and 12. They include “Resume Writing for Success” and “Networking for Results.” Career counseling appointments are also available.
