Spring Semester Registration for New and Current Students Opens December 8
General registration for Spring 2022 classes at College of the Desert opens on Wednesday, December 8. Current and future students are encouraged to enroll as soon as possible for the best class selection and to qualify for one-time federal retention and re-engagement grants of up to $100 per unit.
Priority registration began on November 29 for some groups, including veterans and foster. The College’s open enrollment registration date starts December 8, 2021.
The Spring semester starts January 31, 2022, with late-start courses beginning March 15, 2022.
Students must be registered by March 15 to qualify for the U.S. Department of Education Retention and Re-engagement grant, which is intended for students who left school or didn’t enroll because of the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The grant also encourages current students to complete their educational studies with the intent to mitigate outside factors, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, from impairing their ability to graduate.
“This has been a challenging 20 months for so many of our students; however, I would like for them to know that College of the Desert is here and ready to help them realize their dreams of a college education,” said Martha Garcia, Ed.D., Superintendent/President. “We will offer multiple ways students can take classes, including in-person, online, hybrid, and hyflex, making it more convenient and flexible than ever to attend and complete their educational goal.”
Both credit and noncredit courses are eligible for the grant, regardless of residency or immigration status. Students in for-credit classes would earn $100 per unit, up to 18 units for the semester, more than double the per-unit cost of $46. Grants for noncredit upper-division courses and Adult Basic Education is $25 per class, and English as a Second Language Noncredit receive $150 per class.
The Winter 2022 Intersession open enrollment registration begins on December 8, 2021. Classes for the Winter 2022 Intersession run from January 4, 2022, through January 25, 2022.
