COD Accepting Applications for the Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee
College of the Desert is accepting applications for area residents to fill expiring terms on the Citizens Bond Oversight Committee. The seven-member committee is charged with producing an annual audit of expenditures related to Measure B bond proceeds from the $346.5 million general obligation bond issue that was approved by voters in 2004 and Measure CC bond proceeds from the $577.8 million general obligation bond issue that was approved by voters in 2016.
The committee is required by state law to assure that bond monies are spent solely on land acquisition, construction and equipment and that no money goes to salaries or pay increases. Members will review expenditures, inform the public of such expenditures and issue an annual report.
The appointee must be 18 years of age or older. No member may be an employee of the college, a union representative, official of the District, or a vendor, contractor or consultant of the District.
At this time there are two vacancies open. The first is for the Member-at-Large, West Valley position. The Member at Large, West Valley is a citizen who resides in the western portion of the Coachella Valley. The second is for the Senior Citizen position. The Senior Citizen member must be currently active in a senior citizen organization.
The member will serve a two-year term renewable for a total of three two-year terms. The legal process calls for solicitation of applications after which the College President will review the applications and make recommendations to the Desert Community College District Board of Trustees. The Board will make the final decision. Citizens’ Oversight Committee members are not compensated for their service.
