Spring Musical-The Phantom of the Opera

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 10-time Tony award-winning show The Phantom of the Opera will be performed by College of the Desert Performing Arts May 2-5, 2019, in the McCallum Theatre. The performances will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, 8 p.m. on Friday & Saturday and 2 p.m.on Sunday. For tickets, visit www.mccallumtheater.com

These performances will be concert versions of The Phantom of the Opera, which encompass the entire show with minimal staging and a 28-piece orchestra. “Of course, there will be fog, lighting, video projections, masks and a crashing chandelier,” says Dr. Darlene Romano, “but many visual aspects will be left to the imagination.”

When it first premiered on Broadway in 1988, the show garnered 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and has since risen to become the longest-running show in Broadway history. It features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Charles Hart and Richard Stilgoe and book by Lloyd Webber and Stilgoe.
