PaCE Offers Training Classes in Phlebotomy and Smog Checks

College of the Desert’s Partnership and Community Education (PaCE) program are offering training classes in phlebotomy and smog check renewal.

Phlebotomy Technician training begins Sept. 9 on the College of the Desert’s Indio Campus. Registration is $2,895. Additional fees include California State License, National Exam Fee and scrubs. Sessions are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. Forty hours of clinical externship will be scheduled after passing the National Examination. Learn about the lab environment, anatomy, safety, infection control, equipment, procedure, collection of blood, legal issues and more. Requirements for the externship include 50 draws, 10 capillary punctures, and observation of two arterial punctures. A payment plan is available through the PaCE program. This career training course is Workforce Innovative and Opportunity Act Approved (WIOA). 

Students interested in taking the training should be at least age 18, have a high school diploma or GED, be proficient in English, and have at least ninth-grade mathematics, good hand-to-eye coordination, immunizations and background check, and with no prior criminStudents working in the Diesel Mechanics Labal offenses.Automotive Students at work

PaCE also offers a two-day training for licensed smog technicians that will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturdays, Sept. 16 and 23. The Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) requires a yearly update training prior to license renewal. The training is $275. Designed for license update, the training will cover: Smog Check Program Updates; Diesel Fundamentals and Diagnostic; and hands-on interactive learning. The training will be held in the Diesel Mechanics Building, Room 25, on College of the Desert’s Palm Desert Campus.
