College of the Desert's William C. Tumelty LGBTQIA Scholarship

Mr. William C. Tumelty is a Coachella Valley resident who would like to support College of the Desert students who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, or Asexual (LGBTQIA) through generous scholarships.

Many organizations and foundations offer scholarship awards specifically for LGBTQIA students to ensure lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex and asexual students have the opportunity to pursue higher education. But these scholarships also empower students and foster equality on college campuses across the country. Point Foundation​ Scholars​hip​

​​The Point Community College Program provides scholarships to LGBTQ community college students who aspire to transfer to a four-year college or university.  Students who receive this scholarship can receive up to $3,700 as well as admissions counseling, coaching, and financial education assistance.  

Scholarships for LGBT Students and Allies​

Colleges, universities and organizations offer many academic, extracurricular and financial aid opportunities to LGBT-identified students and LGBT allies. While there are LGBTQ scholarships exclusively reserved for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex students, there are LGBTQ scholarships available to questioning LGBTQI students and allies. There are many scholarships for LGBTQ allies who are dedicated to the active promotion of equal rights and opportunities. Students who participate in LGBTQ-related activities and community projects can land significant college scholarships to help pay for school. Some LGBTQ scholarships give more than just money - scholarship providers may offer leadership training and mentoring program to further advocate and promote LGBTQ rights.​​​
