CHOOSING A MAJOR
Picking your major can be frustrating and sometimes confusing. Deciding on which major or a career can take some time. It is important to explore your different options and "test drive" several majors before deciding on one. Career planning encompasses what you know about yourself (values, interests, abilities and personality) and what you know about different educational and career possibilities. The COD Career Center provides one-on-one career counseling to students and offers several workshops throughout the fall and spring semesters to help students learn more about themselves.
Try the following steps to narrow down your major:
Reserach Majors:
a. Review the COD Course Catalog
b. View "What Can I Do With a Major In ...?"
c. Check out Career and Salary Info
Meet with a Career Counselor:
a. Meet with a Career Counselor to discuss career and major questions.
Other Resources to Consider:
a. Sit in on some classes that are of interest to see if you enjoy the subject
b. Talk to professors in the department to learn more about the major
d. Check out this video for a longitudinal assessment of your actions, likes and dislikes in helping you
determine your future career.
