Marion’s Coaching Philosophy
“The sport of volleyball has been a large part of my life for nearly 20 years as a source of recreation and community, as well as a driving force for my collegiate academic pursuits. The many friends and colleagues I have gained in the volleyball communities of northern and southern California remain some of the closest and finest people in my life.
The hard work and dedication required to be an NCAA athlete taught me valuable life lessons that I wish to share with young athletes as they follow similar courses in their lives. The satisfaction of a job well done and the personal and team success of working together is something I enjoy seeing in my teams season after season. This sport has given me much joy and fun and as long as I have passion to share this wonderful sport and learning environment I will continue to enjoy seeing fine young people improve themselves in athletic and personal ways.”

Detlev’s Coaching Philosophy
“The foundation of my personal coaching philosophy is rooted in my passion for the growth and success of both past and present volleyball programs. Developing athletes that have the skills and understanding to succeed at the next level of their volleyball journey ensures a tangible and attainable goal year to year. These real goals are essential to the feeling of success and achievement.
While each athlete’s journey is different, as are their goals and aspirations within the sport of volleyball, an equally important part of their development is learning and understanding teamwork, camaraderie, goal setting and leadership. It is my philosophy that every member of a team has the opportunity to learn and understand how to operate supportively in a team environment. How to motivate and cheer on teammates, and to allow oneself to open up to others trying to do the same. These “life-skills” are the center of a philosophy that will allow for personal growth in areas that reach beyond athletics, and that will create a life-long passion for volleyball or athletics of all kinds.”
