Born in Salt Lake City, Skip spent much of his youth moving between states, living in California, Arizona, Texas, Tennessee and then Arizona again before settling in Washington state in the late 60’s.
After high school, he served in the U. S. Army for six years with distinction earning a Meritorious Service Medal. He began his post-military years by attending Leeward community college in Hawaii before moving back to Washington state and attending Walla Walla Community College. He went on to earn a degree in Drama with an Acting emphasis from the University of Washington. Over the course of 10 years he pursued a career as an actor both in Seattle and Los Angeles, and Boise Idaho where he performed in the Idaho Shakespeare Festival. He was a member of the Lonny Chapman Group Repertory Theater Company located in Burbank before returning to his true passion, basketball, in 1994.
He has coached at several high schools in the San Gabriel Valley including Cantwell- Sacred Heart of Mary, La Salle, West Covina, and most recently, South Pasadena where he guided the Tigers to a 13-15 record, a San Gabriel High School Tournament championship and a CIF playoff appearance. In between West Covina and South Pasadena Skip coached at Chaffey College where he assisted Gary Plunkett with the Lady Panthers Basketball team. The Panthers won 20 or more games for three consecutive seasons, had numerous tournament championships over the course of those three years, as well as three consecutive playoff appearances.
After earning his degree from UW, Skip has continued his education, attending Cal State L.A., where he earned a teaching credential in P.E. He is currently working towards completing his Masters in P.E.
Skip would like to thank the following three coaches: Coach Art Wilmore, Coach Steve Goldstein, and Coach Gary Plunkett. Each coach has been instrumental in his development as a person and as a coach. He would particularly like to extend his deepest thanks to the Women’s Coach at Chaffey College, Gary Plunkett, for giving him the opportunity to be a part of the Chaffey Athletic Family and introducing him to coaching at the collegiate level.
