ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE Non-Credit (ESLN)
The ESLN Program offers six levels of English, ranging  from the Foundations class to the advanced level 5.  Placement into the ESLN (non-credit) courses is determined by a Placement test.  After completing the ESLN Program, you will have the language skills necessary to move on to many exciting careers or further studies.

REGISTRATION for ESLN Students:
ESLN Registration is on an open-entry, space available basis through the 7th week of the term.

Books are available at no cost to students for use in ESLN classrooms only. 
For the student wishing to have his/her own copy, textbooks can be purchased at the college bookstore.
New ESLN Student Registration:
1.  ESLN students must complete the online College of the Desert admission application by going to www.collegeofthedesert.edu and clicking “Getting Started” and then “Complete online Application” OR come into Admissions and Records to fill out a paper application. (INDIO campus students: visit the Indio campus for a paper application.)
 
 
2.  All new ESLN students are required to complete an ESLN Placement Test.  
        -If you complete the online application, allow 2 -3 business days for your Student ID# to be sent via email, then click here to schedule an appointment for your ESLN Placement Test.

      -For those completing the paper application at the Palm Desert OR Indio Campus, your Placement Test appointment will be scheduled once the application is completed.
 
 
Continuing ESLN Student Registration:
1.    Continuing ESLN students that meet the prerequisite for ESLN IV or V must complete
the online College of the Desert admission application by going to www.collegeofthedesert.edu and clicking “Getting Started” and then “Complete online Application” ​
2.  Enroll for classes via WebAdvisor, and pay your fees.
3.  For Levels Foundation 1, 2 and 3, please go to the Admission and Records office for assistance. (INDIO campus students: visit the Indio Campus office for assistance with registration.)
 
Returning ESLN Student Registration *:
1.    Returning ESLN students ​with a lapse in attendance of one year or more that want to enroll in ESLN IV or V, must complete the online College of the Desert admission application. Go to www.collegeofthedesert.edu and click “Getting Started” and then “Complete Online Application” ​OR come into Admissions and Records to fill out a paper application. (INDIO campus students: visit the Indio campus for a paper application.)
     
   * For those students who have only missed one semester, please refer to "Continuing ELSN Students" above.
 
2.  If you complete the online application, please allow 2 to 3 business days for your Student ID# to be sent via email, then click here to schedule an appointment for your ESLN Entry Test.

     - For those completing the paper application at the Palm Desert OR Indio Campus, your appointment will be scheduled once the application is completed.
 
  
 ESLN Placement Test:

                1. Student must arrive 15 minutes early to their scheduled ESLN Placement Test.

                2. Once the ESLN Placement test is completed, prospective students will be given a printout of their scores and sent to the Admissions and Records window to register for the class they placed into as long as class seats are available.   If no seat is available, they will be placed on a waiting list until an opening in that class occurs.
