Film, Television and Electronic Media

Film and video is storytelling at its most compelling. It’s a business and an art. College of the Desert now offers three ways to study film and video production, starting with the Certificate of Achievement: Basic Film Production and culminating in either the Associates Degree: Film Production, or the Associate of Science Degree: Film, Television and Radio for Transfer

In these programs, students produce professional quality short films and videos and learn the skills required to get started working in jobs like film and video producer, director, writer, camera operator, film editor, sound editor and mixer, effects artist, animator, color grader, location scout and much more. Students learn the business and marketing skills they’ll need to start their own film and video production company or to work in fields that utilize film and video to promote a message, sell a product or communicate the news. And they learn the storytelling skills specific to film and video production that empower them to express unique, compelling ideas that will generate emotion in, elicit responses from and build relationships with the most important people in the world – their audience.

Start with RTV 06 Introduction to Film, RTV 09 Screenwriting, RTV 10 Film Production I and RTV 11 Film Production II in Year One. Then add RTV 13 Cinematography, DDP 20 Editing, TA 10 Production Design and RTV 12 Film Production III Capstone in Year Two. Explore elective options to make your program of study unique to you.
