The music department at College of the Desert will present a concert at COD’s Pollock Theatre on Mar. 2, 2012 at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The CD project was produced by Associate Professor Music Dr. Anthony Fesmire, and engineered by former COD student Timothy McHenry as his culminating project in music technology. McHenry is currently pursuing a BA degree in music at the University of Montana. The CD features performances that were recorded over the past two years by COD’s jazz combos, jazz big band, percussion ensemble, and classical chamber groups. The concert will present many of the selections heard on the CD and will feature current music majors, non-majors, and alumni.

The music department at College of the Desert offers courses that lead to an Associate of Arts degree in music and the opportunity to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a Bachelor’s degree in music. In addition, non-major students can take a variety of courses to support earning an AA degree in other subject areas. Students majoring in music take individual lessons focusing on jazz or classical performance, study music theory and piano, and participate in the college’s jazz ensembles, symphonic band, jazz and chamber choirs, and spring musical theater productions in the McCallum Theatre.

“This CD features some excellent performances by the music students from College of the Desert and demonstrates some of the variety of opportunities available to residents of the Coachella Valley,” stated Dr. Fesmire. This concert will kick-off a series of performances featuring student ensembles, faculty, and guest artists.

CD’s can be purchased at concerts the Music Department holds or by contacting Fesmire. If you would like more information on this topic, or to schedule an interview, contact Fesmire at (760) 776-7477 or afesmire@collegeofthedesert.edu.
