Focus on Autism
On Tuesday, October 30th, the Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) department of College of the Desert (COD) will present “Focus on Autism” in the Cravens Student Services Center Multipurpose Room from 12:20 to 1:50 pm.
“October is Disability Awareness Month and we would like to put the spotlight onto Autism because of the heightened attention that this disability has received by the media in recent months,” noted DSPS Director Dr. Nathan Church. The evidence points to significant growth in this disability in the last couple of decades. This has created a bit of controversy, largely around whether the reported growth represents actual increases in Autism, or if it simply reflects better and earlier diagnoses.
Please join us to get some answers about this disability. Our College physician, Dr. Steven Roberts, will be present to describe some of the medical features of this disability and our staff will help to highlight some of the behavioral and social features of this disability. We will also have a parent of an autistic child presenting about her experiences.
