COD Wins Five DTL Awards
COD recently won five awards at the Desert Theatre League Desert Star Awards for the 2011-12 season.
Four of the awards were for Jekyll & Hyde and one for The Happiest Days of Your Life. Jekyll & Hyde returned with trophies for Outstanding Production-Musical/opera/Pageant, Mark Almy for Outstanding Lead Actor-Musical/opera/Pageant-Professional, Kaley Smith for Outstanding Lead Acrtress-Musical/Opera/Pageant-Amateur, and Scott T. Smith for Outstanding Sound Design-Professional. Doug Newton won the award for Outstanding lead Actor-Comedy, The Happiest Days of Your Life.

Twenty-eight cast members, directors, and choreographers in College of the Desert’s theater arts program were among the nominees for the Desert Theatre League Desert Star Awards. COD productions were nominated for hair and makeup design, sound and lighting design, props and special effects, and overall production.
Jekyll & Hyde, directed by Darlene Romano, was up for 12 awards, including Director of a Musical, Outstanding Production-Musical/Opera/Pageant, Musical-Director, Choreographer of a Musical, Lead Actor-Musical, Lead Actress-Musical, Supporting Actor-Musical, Supporting Actress-Musical, Hair and Makeup-Professional, Lighting Design-Professional, and Sound Design, Props and Special Effects-Professional, and Sound Design-Professional.
Directed by Tres Dean, The Happiest Days of Your Life, had ten nominations in seven categories. They were for Production-Comedy, Director of a Comedy-Professional, Lead Actor-Comedy, Lead Actress-Comedy, Supporting Actor-Comedy, Supporting Actress-Comedy and Sound Design-Professional.

Summer and Smoke, directed by Fergus Currie, had six nominations. The categories are: Production-Drama, Director of a Drama, Lead Actor-Drama, Lead Actress-Drama, Supporting Actor-Drama, Supporting Actress-Drama.
