TRANSGENDER DAY OF REMEMBRANCE RECOGNIZED BY
COLLEGE OF THE DESERT’S GAY-STRAIGHT ALLIANCE

The College of the Desert’s (COD) Gay-Straight Alliance has partnered with the TransScribe campaign to hold a special Memorial and Candlelight Vigil ceremony on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, from 5:00-6:30pm in the amphitheater at the main entrance to the college.

Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR) is a day to memorialize those who have been killed as a result of transphobia, or the hatred or fear of transgender and gender non-conforming people. The goal of TDoR is to bring attention to the continued violence endured by the transgender community. Gay-Straight Alliance of College of the Desert has partnered with the TransScribe campaign whose goal is to eradicate prejudice, abuse and violence arising from sex-gender diversity.

Scheduled speakers include: Greg Rodriguez, a representative from the office of Congressman Raul Ruiz; Lisa Howell, COD Vice President of Administrative Services; Carlos Maldonado, COD Director of Student Life; and Tamasyn Maeve, a College of the Desert student.

College of the Desert is located at 43500 Monterey Avenue in Palm Desert, California. This event is open to the public and is co-sponsored by Bloom in the Desert Ministries and Trader Joe’s. Free parking on campus is available for this event.
