Sustainability Stewardship 

In November 2009, the Board of Trustees of College of the Desert adopted the following Sustainability Stewardship Policy to affirm that...
COD will develop and maintain principles and guidelines of sustainability stewardship in the execution of its responsibilities to facilities design and operation;  campus management;  and teaching and learning.
The Policy, supported by eight Guiding Principles , commits the District to establish, maintain, operationalize, and report on eight environmental standards that encompasses much of what is conducted on campus – from facilities and operating procedures to fundraising and curriculum.  The eight principles, while categorized as separate items, are very much interrelated and envisaged as an integrated whole.
In 2010, COD formed a Green Council to shepherd operationalization of the Policy and to set annual goals, objectives, and targets.  In addition, Sustainability Stewards have been identified who are responsible for upholding the principles.
