Solar Photovoltaic Principles and Applications  class9.jpg
Participants receive 60 hours of training providing the fundamental knowledge and skills for becoming part of the solar energy workforce.  The course teaches the principles of solar photovoltaics, related electrical theory, essential design considerations, basic installation, and performance factors.  Participants receive preparation for and take the NABCEP Entry Level exam during the course.  It also provides a unique opportunity for real-life experience installing a residential system at the conclusion of the course with GRID Alternatives. This additional 16 hours of hands-on brings the course total to 76  hours. Textbook, test fee, course materials and 2 days of hands on installation, all supplied with the cost of the course. Dates: Spring Class. April 21 to June 18, 2015. Tues. & Thurs. nights from 5:30 - 9:30pm for 8 weeks, plus NABCEP test and Solar Installation (2 days). NABCEP Entry Level Exam on Thursday, June 11, 2015.
Solar installation hands-on with GRID Alternatives will follow the course. Usually the next week for two full days of experience.

Registration Information (All courses)

You can register online (above - Pay in full) or partial payment registration is done through the PaCE facility conviently located in the Westfield Mall in Palm Desert. You can pay by check, money order or credit card. PaCE is located on the lower level of the mall, below the food court. They are open weekdays from 8am to 5pm.  PaCE is a part of College of the Desert that reaches out into the community for partnerships and education. You can also call them at 760-776-7420 and pay by credit card over the phone.

Training Location (All courses)

The classroom for training is at the Desert Energy Enterprise Center (DEEC).  This is NOT on the main campus.  The address is 3301 Salvia Road, Palm Springs, CA 92262.  The DEEC is just off Interstate 10 at Gene Autry Trail. Exit #123. The building is visible from the freeway among a few billboards.


Photovoltaic Technical Sales Training
This course is designed to build on the knowledge of solar professionals, gained through
prior training or work experience, by adding in-depth knowledge of design, site surveys, sales techniques, cost analysis, incentives, local regulations, and effective customer communication skills. The purpose: increase sales and ensure customer satisfaction.  This 32-hour course covers the learning objectives in preparation for NABCEP Technical Sales Certification.  The certification exam must be taken separately at NABCEP-specified test centers. 
Come to the beautiful Palm Springs CA, golf or relax in the morning, and attend class in the late afternoon!  This is the perfect opportunity for solar companies to reward dedicated sales staff while increasing their knowledge and sales success.

Principios y Aplicaciones de Fotovoltaico Solar

Participantes recibiran 60 horas de entrenamiento en conocimiento fundamental y experencia tecnica para ganar empleo en la area de energia solar. En este curso se les enseñara los principios de fotovoltaico, teoria electrica, consideraciones del deseño, y como instalar modulos solares. Participantes recibiran la preparacion adequada para repasar el examen de NABCEP.  El examen es ofrecido solamente en Ingles y es opcional por $95 adicional.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration training is the standard for working on jobs sites in construction, industry, warehousing, and other industry sectors. This 10-hour course teaches participants the federally required knowledge and skills necessary to receive the OSHA 10 card, a credential required more-and-more in all types of industry.

Utility-Scale Solar Energy

The Utility-Scale Solar Energy Program focuses on preparing workers for the utility-scale solar energy industry developing in the desert region of Southern California.  It is 180 hours of training.  The first half of the course is devoted to general solar energy theory and its applications.  This portion of the course prepares students for the NABCEP Entry Level exam.  The second half of the course focuses on Utility-Scale Photovoltaics (PV) and Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) systems.  It includes construction skills for thin-film PV as used at the Desert Sunlight and McCoy projects. First Solar is one of our industry partners. OSHA 10 and Red Cross First Aid/CPR will be included in the training. Students will also complete a 2 day solar installation with GRID Alternatives to practice their new skills.
To enroll in the course, you must meet eligibility requirements and reside in To enroll in the course, you must meet eligibility requirements and reside in Riverside county.  If you are unemployed, you will probably meet these requirements.  There is also an orientation and pre-course skill assessment you must take.
