Salute to Veterans Ceremony Takes Place Today

Body

A Salute to Veterans will be held on the College of the Desert (COD) campus today (Nov. 10)  at noon in the Food Service Courtyard, next to Bookstore.

Service Flags of the five armed forces will be on display to honor those who have served in the military and COD student veterans. Timothy Castro, President of the Student Veterans Organization, will briefly speak about the history of Veteran’s Day and each of the armed forces. At the end of the ceremony veterans will be asked to gather near their service’s flag.

“I currently have approximately 250 veterans I work with, but I know there’s more attending COD,” said Donni Prince, COD Veterans Office. The free event is open to the public and is the first to be held honoring veterans. The COD Student Veterans Organization is sponsoring the event. COD’s Dr. Doug Kroll, Associate Professor of History, is the advisor for the student organization. The campus will be closed on Wednesday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veteran’s Day.
